When to Sell - Pure Property Sales

There is no hard and fast rule as to when the best time is to sell. The common theme is to sell in Spring or Summer, when the weather is best. In all honesty though, in Australia we enjoy seasonable weather most of the year long. There are however, a couple of times it would be best to avoid when trying to sell.

Christmas would have to top the list. Christmas is undoubtedly the busiest time of the year for the vast majority of families out there and quite possibly the least likely time for a family wishing to pack their belongings and uproot.

June-August months are generally a quiet time of year for real estate. This is not to say, however, that this time of year should be avoided. Realistically, fewer properties on the market means less competition for your property.

Apart from the notorious Christmas period, there is no time of the year that should particularly be avoided when it comes to selling your home. The need for sale is usually negated by external influences – job change, change to family dynamics, need to upgrade or downsize etc. The successful sale of your home is more defined by a clever market approach and realistic asking price as opposed to the influence of any particular time of the year.

Your agent will be able to discuss with you, in depth, the current market trends and expectations when you decide it is time to sell.
