Ipswich – Suburb Profile

Ipswich has recently developed to the point that it has established itself as an increasingly influential city in south east Queensland. Notable for being Queensland’s oldest provincial city, Ipswich can boast a progressive approach to the maintenance and development of its city and is garnering a reputation as an attractive locale to live or invest.

Ipswich is home to more than 6000 heritage listed sites and the city centre is a tribute to cultural and architectural influences of eras past. With an abundance of over 500 community parklands, common areas and a dedication to preserving historical buildings and homes, Ipswich has cultivated a charming atmosphere and beautiful landscapes. City attractions include a variety of cafes, restaurants and shopping centres, as well as the Ipswich Art Gallery and the Workshops Rail Museum.

Previously, a typical dwelling in Ipswich was a low set, detached home on a substantial block. Due to the increasing popularity of the area there are now a variety of housing options – most notably a heavy influence of modern estate living and the more recent introduction of unit complexes. Ipswich bears an abundance of colonial and post war homes – introduced during the mining boom. A large number of these residential dwellings have been renovated and maintained during the boom that Ipswich experienced during early 2006 to date and these homes lend themselves to the carefully cultivated character of the city centre.

Situated only 40 minutes from Brisbane CBD and an hour from the Gold Coast and domestic and international airports, Ipswich is quickly cementing its position as a very desirable location to live and invest. Property prices have yet to see the heavy inflation of regions such as inner Brisbane and the Gold Coast, however rental returns for the area are still very comparable to more popular areas. Ipswich is set to become one of the most desirable locations in South East Queensland.
