Auchenflower – Suburb Profile

Auchenflower has battled its higher profile neighbours Toowong and Paddington to cement itself as one of Brisbane’s most desirable inner-city suburbs. Located just two kilometers south west of the Brisbane CBD, Auchenflower has a diverse range of housing options, is within easy reach of Suncorp Stadium, local sport and recreation facilities and fashionable retail precincts. These elements are reflected in recent capital growth gains in the suburb.

You can still find reminders of Brisbane’s nineteenth century past in residences of the rolling hills of western Auchenflower. Highrise residential apartment blocks arise from Auchenflower’s lower reaches right next to the Brisbane River. These towers, a mix of older 1970s and 1980s style and modern complexes, command stunning views in two directions: one towards the Brisbane CBD, the other south towards St Lucia. Across the river is the popular, rapidly gentrifying, suburb of West End, with its green parks and modern riverside residential developments.

Auchenflower is a short walk down bustling Milton Road from Suncorp Stadium, Queensland’s premier sporting venue. Milton Road itself has a mix of postwar residences (literally bursting with potential), numerous convenience stores and great local eateries you can explore. Continue further down Milton Road you will arrive at Toowong and Toowong Village, one of Brisbane’s largest shopping centres.

Auchenflower has its own train station, which provides efficient transport directly to the Brisbane CBD, or west to Toowong, Indooroopilly, or eventually to Ipswich. Recent upgrades to Coronation Drive, one of the main arteries in and out of the Brisbane CBD, and the construction of the Go Between Bridge across to West End, have improved transport options to all the inner-west suburbs, including Auchenflower. A popular bikeway and pedestrian walkway connects Auchenflower and Toowong directly to the city, and this is very popular with weekday office commuters and on the weekends. The Regatta CityCat terminal, near the popular Regatta Hotel, is also located nearby.
